Lisbon Airport (LIS) has a significant advantage over most European capitals: it's located just 7 kilometers from the city center, making airport transfers quick and cheap regardless of which option you choose. The Aerobus, Metro, Uber, and regular city buses all serve the airport, with prices ranging from €1.65 to €15.

The Aerobus (Line 1) is the dedicated airport shuttle, running between the airport and Cais do Sodré via Marquês de Pombal, Avenida da Liberdade, Restauradores, and Rossio. The fare is €4 for a single trip or €6 for a round-trip, and buses depart every 20 minutes from 7:30 AM to 11:00 PM. The journey to Cais do Sodré takes approximately 35–45 minutes depending on traffic. A second route (Line 2) serves the financial district. The Aerobus ticket includes unlimited Carris (city bus/tram) rides for 24 hours from first use, which adds genuine value if you plan to use public transit on your arrival day.

The Lisbon Metro is the cheapest option at €1.65 per ride (with a reusable Viva Viagem card, which costs €0.50). The red line (Linha Vermelha) runs from the airport to São Sebastião, Marquês de Pombal, and Alameda, where you can transfer to other metro lines. The journey from the airport to Baixa-Chiado takes approximately 20–25 minutes with one transfer at Alameda or São Sebastião. The Metro runs from 6:30 AM to 1:00 AM and is the fastest option during rush hours when road traffic is heavy.

Uber and Bolt (both operate in Lisbon) charge €8–12 from the airport to most central Lisbon neighborhoods. During off-peak hours, fares are often under €10 for Baixa, Bairro Alto, or Alfama. During rush hours (8–10 AM and 5–8 PM), surge pricing can push fares to €15–20. The pickup point is on the departures level (follow signs for "Ride-hailing pickup"). For two or more travelers, Uber/Bolt is often the most cost-effective option when you divide the fare—two people pay €4–6 each, comparable to the Aerobus but with door-to-door convenience and luggage assistance.

Traditional taxis from the airport use a metered fare. The typical cost to central Lisbon is €10–15, with a €1.60 flag-fall plus €0.47 per kilometer. A fixed supplement of €1.60 applies for airport pickups. Taxis are reliable and regulated, but Uber/Bolt is almost always equal or cheaper with the added benefit of cashless payment and route tracking.

Regular Carris city buses (lines 744, 783, 208) serve the airport at the standard €2.00 fare (or €1.65 with a Viva Viagem card). These buses are cheaper than the Aerobus but slower, with more stops and less luggage space. They're a viable option for travelers with light luggage staying near the bus route.

For families or groups of 3–4, a taxi or Uber (€10–15 total) is unquestionably the best value—cheaper per person than any public transport option and infinitely more convenient with luggage and tired children. The airport's proximity to the center means the ride takes just 15–25 minutes, even in moderate traffic.
