Star Lager—Nigeria's original beer, brewed since 1949—is the default drink at every Lagos bar, buka, and outdoor joint. Pricing follows a straightforward geography-based system that mirrors nearly everything in Lagos: the closer you are to the Island (Victoria Island and Ikoyi), the more you pay. At a standard open-air beer parlor in Ikeja, Surulere, or along the mainland, a 600ml bottle of Star costs ₦800–₦1,200. These joints are where most Lagosians drink after work—plastic chairs, a generator humming in the background, and cold bottles pulled from chest freezers.

Cross the Third Mainland Bridge to Victoria Island and the same Star Lager bottle jumps to ₦2,000–₦3,500 at bars and lounges. At upscale spots like Hard Rock Café Lagos, Sailor's Lounge, or any of the rooftop bars along Admiralty Way in Lekki Phase 1, Star and other Nigerian beers are served at ₦3,000–₦5,000, sometimes with a mandatory service charge of 5–10%. The beer is identical—same brewery, same recipe, same green bottle—but the air conditioning, cocktail-menu aesthetics, and bouncers at the door justify the markup in the eyes of the venue.

At truly local spots—the kind of corrugated-iron canopy setups in Oshodi, Ajegunle, or Mushin—Star Lager can be as cheap as ₦600–₦800. These are neighborhood joints where regulars are known by name, bottles are shared, and the suya vendor operates from a grill three meters from your table. The beer stays cold because turnover is rapid, not because refrigeration is fancy.

Off-premise pricing tells the clearest story. A crate of Star Lager (12 bottles) from a distributor or large shop costs ₦7,000–₦9,000, making the per-bottle price roughly ₦600–₦750. Individual bottles at small roadside shops and kiosks sell for ₦700–₦1,000. Supermarkets like Shoprite and Spar in Lagos price individual bottles at ₦900–₦1,200, which is paradoxically more expensive than many neighborhood beer parlors that buy wholesale.

The canned version (330ml Star) is less common in Lagos and priced higher per volume—typically ₦600–₦800 for a smaller serving. Most Lagosians prefer the 600ml bottle because the value is better, the glass bottle stays colder longer, and sharing from a large bottle is culturally embedded in Lagos drinking culture.
